all of the above are lovley to drink and it will really depend on your own palet my own personal fave is a double matured lagvullian in a vanilla cask, this has a fantastic peaty flavour with that sublte sweetness that come thur the background.

If you like it peaty:-
Glenfiddich Caoran is a nice malt. Its a specially finished version of Glenfiddich
or
Bowmore Darkest

If you like it in the middle somewhere:-
Springbank 21 yrs old from Campbeltown. Its from mainland Scotland but shares the Peaty nature of the Islay malts as Campbeltown is a narrow Peninsula on the West Coast.

or

Macallan 25 year old

If you like it smooth:-

Auchentoshan 17 yrs from the outskirts of Glasgow, it contains no peat at all and is triple distilled.

Glenmorangie Portwood finish

Give Bowmore 10 or 12 year old Islay single malt a try. This is typical of Islay and will be a peaty, smoky taste and aroma so may not be for you.

Ardbeg 10yo £27.50
46% proof. Technically the most peaty of Islay malts with sweet honey and rich meaty notes balance it out.

while laphroaig is a beautiful whisky it is not the best to start off with. you must try many others first to fully appreciate its beauty. i recommend to anyone to try some of the lighter ones first, eg glenmorangie (mmmmmmmmm.) one cube of ice or an equal amount of water is acceptable only.

glenmorangie is my favourite, closely followed by glenfiddich. however you can also try laphroigh. but be careful, it is a very peaty whisky. try it first in a pub and see if you like the peaty / smokey flavour. not to everyones taste.
