When I think of the words "flip flops" I picture the flat rubber shoes, which if that is what you're talking about, I say no, they are not appropriate to wear out to dinner. (Unless the restaurant you're talking about is McDonald's). If they are more like a sandal with a heel, then I say they would be fine.

The etiquette for flip flops is; excellent for beach, shower, picnic and backyard parties. It would be a fashion faux pax to wear tongs, beach shoes, shower shoes or flip flops to a nice restaurant, even worse with dress clothes.

After all, nice clothes are complimented by nice shoes, so what are you saving the nice shoes for? Not for a day at the beach?!

One last rule of etiquette on these casual open toes, if your feet aren't clean and groomed, wait until you can shower. Nothing shows immaturity or a lack of class as dirty, ugly feet exposed to the whole world....yech!!!

Depends what kind. I think the rubber kind in bright colors look pretty silly, they're more beach wear... but there are also very nice dressy 'flipflops', leather ones, with rhinestones, etc. Those can go with dress clothes very well!
That said, I go barefoot everywhere, I do sometimes wear jewelry on my feet but I don't really care about etiquette or what is 'appropriate'. In the end it should always be our own choice what we wear, do, or don't wear as long as our private parts are covered & we aren't shedding hairs or ashes or such on the food! Our bodies, our choice!

That would depend on the type of flip flop..some are nicer than others..but a decent pair would be OK

Depends on what type of restaurant it is? If it is a casual, relaxed atmosphere, you can. If it is a fancy restaurant, I would say wear your dress shoes. If it is somewhere in between, I would call the restaurant and inquire about the dress code.

unless they are the cheap ones, u should be ok. ive seen some flip flops which are really cute with buttons or beads on them and maybe a bit of heel.
if they are the chunky plastic ones then i suggest u stay away from them its better to wear some sneakers

and the question is ? is it a fancy restaurant or a casual atmosphere.i am for wearing what makes you comfortable but you also don't want people staring at you.. i never pay attention to what people have on unless they walk past my table then i will notice. or if they are really flamboyant.

They are appropriate if they have some rhinestones or gems on them. Just don't wear the ones for the beach.
