I'm 29 years old, 6 foot 1 and weight 154 pounds (70 kg). According to a BMI chart, this puts me just inside the 'ideal' range.

When I look at my arms, legs, chest etc, I look pretty skinny, but I do have a little bit of a belly. So I wonder, should I be losing weight, or trying putting it on?

I can imagine a lot of people thinking that, given the obesity problems in the US and our preoccupation with weight, fretting over a few pounds is silly, but I'm still curious: in my early 20s I was around 140 lbs and was actively trying to put weight on. Did i do something wrong which caused the fat to go to my stomach rather than evenly distribute itself?

The BMI chart is very general. It can tell you that your weight is within range, but the truth is, WHERE your weight or "fat" is determines your level of health and fitness. You could be skinny on the cale, but have high cholesterol and be on track to develop diabetes or heart disease. If you have extra weight around the middle, it usually means you are eating too many carbs, processed foods, sweets, and junk - and not getting enough cardio and strength. Forget about getting skinnier. Focus on getting "fit." Exercise and cut out the junk and you will find your happy balance. And you'll look hot!

You probably need to be a little more active as your body is beginning to indicate it is going toward the fat depositing stage. And muscle weighs more than fat. So shift the fat to muscle by working out a bit more and keep up eating good, as the exercise will control the fat gain. It'll just be turning to muscle instead, so you can safely let yourself weigh a little more.

Some exercise can help. Try to eat healthy, and if you feel fine, the weight isn't really a matter.

I don't think you need to lose weigth or gain weight, maybe all you need is to tone your body up, do some exercise and eat healthy that's the best way to maintain your weight.

Good luck
