Lucid dreams are almost the same as your state of waking consciousness-the brainwaves are almost identical so in a sense they are real. Your mind can't distinguish the difference between them and reality.

Our present bodily situation is real but temporary. It is like a dream. A dream does not exist before one falls asleep, nor does it continue after one awakens. The period for dreaming exists only between these two, and therefore it is false in the sense that it is impermanent. Similarly, our own creation and those of others, is impermanent. We do not lament for the situation in a dream before the dream takes place or after it is over, and so during the dream, or during a dreamlike situation, one should not accept it as factual and lament about it. This is real knowledge.
In a dream we form a society of friendship and love, and when we awaken we see that it has ceased to exist. Similarly, one's gross society, family and love are also a dream, and this dream will be over as soon as one dies. Therefore, whether one is dreaming in a subtle way or a gross way, these dreams are all false and temporary. One's real business is to understand that one is soul and that his activities should therefore be different.

Dreams.

What you perceive... is valid perception, but until you understand the concept of emptiness (at least conceptually, if you haven't seen it directly) then your perceptions are not correct perceptions. Correct perception is understanding that all things are empty of inherent existence, or arise due to causes and conditions, are impermanent, etc.

So while you're sleeping, your perceptions in your dreams are valid to YOU, but are not correct perceptions. What you perceive now is valid perception to you, but not correct perception.... and so on and so forth. Western thinking, and therefore perception, is dualistic, by nature and therefore it's hard to understand "reality" unless you open up your mind, and gain wisdom and knowledge.
