I am going to Shanghai next month and thinking of going to Macau as well, that's why I wanted to find out how far is Shanghai from Macau?

Its a 2 & a half hour flight. But if you travel to Hong Kong its only a 45 minute boat ride.

macao is 40 miles from hong kong, to go to shanghai by plane takes 1hour 15 minutes.

it's a fair ways away
it's probably about 2 hours by plane
and 14 hours by train
