Dancing is a very effective whole body work out.it is usually done in a controlled climate on a flat surface. It is very fun and therefor often preferred as a fitness /fun activity. Running although very high on the list of calorie burning workouts, comes fraught with many dangers. Running on uneven dirt paths can cause falls and sprains do to the unnatural tilt of the leg and ankle, running on a concrete sidewalk or paved road causes extreme impact on the joints and can also result in a splintering of the bone in the leg called Shin splints. It does not burn any more calories than dancing, and the wear and tear on the body in my opinion is not worth the risk

I'd say dancing, because while running can give you a lot of foot/knee problems in the long run, and is the same is jogging or walking, dancing has a higher fun factor, and get to use your whole body. :D I can't even dance, I think you should be glad to have SOME dancing ability! Some forms of dancing even promote flexibility and balance, something that isn't as common in running. Both forms however, require stamina. :)

Based on my own experience, dancing burns just as many calories, if not more, than running. According to a work-out program I have, dancing for an hour, including frequent breaks, equals running for 7 straight miles. Dancing also works out more muscle groups than running. It is all-together a better workout.

I think dancing would be better on your joints, funner and as for calories I dont know how many you would burn, this all depends on how long you would be dancing, you can get a pedometer it calculates your steps and your calories too, Running is fun but can also be bad on your joints. You will feel the workout, and the better you get at it the farther and faster you need to do it.

Running is known as the sport which loses you the most weight. But it does only focus on key areas like your legs and arms. It's a good workout if you want to be by yourself. Dancing is a good social sport, and the excersize can revolve around your whole body. It's an 'all body' workout as opposed to running. It can also be funner. And you can do running practically anywhere- the same doesn't really apply to dancing.

It depends on what kind of dancing and at what speed you're running. I suggest you do both to lose an accurate amount of weight. If you're trying to lose woight fast, run for about 2 hours every evening (or morning) and do a dance workout for 1-2 1/2 hours per 2 days.

I wood say dancing b/c you work all areas of your body rather than one w/running (legs). However, im not sure if it burns more calories but on the fun factor, its so much more fun.

It depends on the person's structure. For some people, dancing may be funner and more active but running ia also a really good way of losing weight if you have the time.

running and dancing are both good ways to lose weight. dancing is funner but running can be fun if you run with someone or listen to an ipod. when you run or dance, do it in short times ex. 20 minutes twice a day instead of 40 minutes straight.

Both can rate as overall body workouts depending on the intensity of each. Running has the possibility of damaging joints more than dancing because of the constant pounding on pavement. I would consider the better workout the one I look forward to doing as opposed to the one I have to force myself to do. That way, you'll always love doing it and you'll work at it harder, because you also like doing it!
