Should the fact that the person did the right thing be enough or should you offer them something for returning it to you? If so, what should be offered?

You should offer them something. Just think of all the hassles you would have had if the person didn't return your wallet. I would say give them 10% of the wallet's cash contents, but at least $20.00.

Hard to say. If the wallet was returned without anything missing and it still had all my money in it, I'd give them some of the money depending on how rich I was. Because of my financial situation, I might offer them $25-50 and hope that they refuse to accept it. If I were rich, I'd give them more. If all my money was missing, I wouldn't have anyway of knowing who took it so I'd be less inclined to give a reward. Maybe I'd give $5 and explain that all my money was missing so I couldn't give more.

I don't use a wallet anymore because I'm afraid of keeping all my important stuff in the same place. I don't have credit cards or anything. Just ID and a bank card that I can keep in a zippered pocket. I used to carry a purse with a wallet and it just stressed me out all the time. If I take a purse somewhere, I don't have anything important in it anymore, just tissues, makeup, hairbrush, etc..

A man once returned my wallet at Blockbusters.
I put $20 in his account.

ABSOLUTELY, my purse only had some pictures of my family in, ones that really can't be replaced, and my social security card, and health cards. but when it was lost, i offered the finder $20 just because, i really wanted and appreciated having it back.
they, of coarse, would not take it, but still make the offer, even if there wasn't any money in the wallet to begin with.

I think you can offer a reward as an expression of gratitude, if you are able to give. The person is free to turn it down.

Consider the fact that they could have just kept it. Give them a thankyou card and at least 20 bucks

Give them a thank you card and a $10 gift certificate to Starbucks or donate some money in their name to a charity and include that in your thank you card
