Often, (but not always) females are the dominant, bossy ones. I would think a neutered male would be less stressful for them. Introduce them gradually, using a separate room for new kitty so that they don't have to be in each other's faces right away. They will smell each other on your clothes and gradually come to accept that. Remember to continue spoiling the two girls and reward their patience and good behaviour. Give them separate dining areas and separate potty boxes when it is time to let the newcomer out of quarantine.

If they are all neutered it doesn't really matter. I have 2 females and a male. The male and one of the females get on fine but the other female doesn't really get on with either of them. It personality that counts more than anything else.

Probably a male would be better. BUT it may be difficult for the new cat, bearing in mind that your 2 cats are sisters they have never been separated & therefore may deeply resent another cat joining the family. It really depends on your cats natures & how terretorial they are etc

If they are neutered (which they should be) a neutered male would be best. Give them time to get acquanted. There will be a time of establishing a "pecking" order, but they will soon be eating, sleeping, and playing together.
Please, please, please, do not allow them to have more kittens. I used to run a dog pound in a small rural community. Each year we would have to have hundreds of animals destroyed because people were too lazy or just didn't care and allowed their pets to continually breed.
I love cats, but there are too many unwanted cats and dogs now. It makes me so sad to think of all the unwanted animals suffering in the cold, starving, being abused, dying of illnesses, etc., because people are too selfish.
Sorry for making this a sounding board.

It really doesn't matter. Males are more dominant and can spray. If all are female one will become the Alfa female as such and rule over the others.

If they are all spayed and neutered it really doesn't matter although they may accept a male better.
