My husband is in the millitary and has leave this feb, our daughters are 2years old and 10 months. And this well be his family first time seeing the girls.Im a lil worried about the trip. we have a 3 hour lay over on the way there and a four lay over on the way back. and i've never done this before, i just need a few good ideas to make this a better trip for everyone. Should i pack a few toys to play with on the plain? or well they let me do that? I would love to hear any ideas from anyone that has gone on trips with their small children. thanks.

we drive to kansas city every year to visit my husbands family, it's about a 16 hour drive, so I know what you mean about long trips. When the kids were younger, I made sure to pack toys, books, crayons, and snacks. We've never taken them on a plane though. I would consult your kids doc about what do with the pressure changes during takeoff. Older kids can chew gum, but not the baby. You can also check with the airline you will be flying on to see if they hav restrictions on what you can and can not take on the plane. From the way you've stated it though, I get the impression that you are more worried about what to do during the layovers to keep them from getting bored? Walk with the around the airport, let the watch out the windows at the planes that are landing and taking off. You would be surprised at the things kids find amazing and can watch for what seems like forever before they get bored with it. Most airports also have gift shops and eateries. While 3 and 4 hours seems like a long time I am sure once you get there and start exploring the airports, you'll be surprised at how fast the time goes. Make it an adventure for them, it will be fun! Remember this: if you are stressed the kids will sense it and they will be too. So if you keep your spirits up and sense of adventure open, the kids will be that way too.

i took my two girls when they were that age to colorado and we had a 5 hour delay in houston becasue our connecting flight was missed.put a few small toys in your purse, ones they love though and will make them more comfortable on the plane.in your carry on bag however yes bring stuff for them, snacks toys, a book you can read to the two year old.they should also let you take a stroller so you can go to the gift shop, go eat lunch, anything to keep them distracted.we laso liked to watch all the planes leave.that wasted a lot of time.just whatever you do, dont let them see you if you are getting bored or impatient cause that will make them the same way.so just stay positive and everything should be ok.good luck to you, i hope you all have a great time:)

sure, bring their familiar toys, blankies if they have them. The more comfortable and occupied the easier it is for you and all the passengers that are on your flight too. Bring little snacks, and sippy cups too. When we flew - a direct flight to NC w/ my 2 & 3 year old we had a backpack full of stuff just for them, from the diaper to juice and cheerios & teddies.

Don't forget to pack children's decongestant - check w/ your Pediatrician for doses or other ideas. Flying w/ congestion is hell for adults but even worse for kids - if they have ear pain everyone on the plane will know it.

Bring book, papers and coloring pens for you 2yr old, and one of her favorite toy. she can help you with that. with your ten month old, something she can play as well.. maybe 3 small toys would be nice. You dont want to carry lots of stuff anyways. oh by the way, bring snacks for the kids ,they might now want food from the plane. no sugary food!

let them bring one toy on the plane, and maybe you can bring some of their favorite books so you can read it to them. and let them look out the window to see the clouds, thats if your by a window. and watch the expression on their face. and chew gum. you will know what i mean when you get on the plane and your going up.
