Pope = Roman Catholic = monotheist
Dalia Lama = Buddhism = polytheist
For starters...In the Buddhist conception of Nirvana no account was taken of the all-god Brahma. And as prayers and offerings to the traditional ***gods*** were held to be of no avail for the attainment of this negative state of bliss, Buddha, with greater consistency than was shown in pantheistic Brahminism, rejected both the Vedas and the Vedic rites. It was this attitude which stamped Buddhism as a ***heresy. For this reason, too, Buddha has been set down by some as an atheist. Buddha, however, was not an atheist in the sense that he denied the ****existence of the gods****. To him ******the gods***** were living realities. In his alleged sayings, as in the Buddhist scriptures generally, *******the gods********* are often mentioned, and always with respect.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, does not dictate religious nor moral doctrine, he's not the "head" of Buddhism, he's just the most widely recognized. There are LOTS of other leaders who hold a similar level of education and realizations as he does within the various lineages and so on, but they're just not as well known outside of Buddhist studies. He refers to himself as "a simple monk". He's deeply altruistic, and gentle and kind and studies anything he can get his hands on. He believes that all religions are a good thing, for those who follow them, and that Buddhism is NOT the only "one true religion". He doesn't proselytize nor badmouth other religions, etc. He lives in and wears simple robes of the monks of his lineage. We don't believe in a creator god or gods so we're NOT polytheist, and we don't believe in heaven and hell.
These are but a few facts... I'll let you make the rest of the connections to compare and contrast.

The Pope is Christian, and will be enter Heaven upon his departure from this earth.
The Dalia Lama was Buddhist, and, unless he repented of his sins, he is in Hell.

Both are good and solid human beings and both to be admired, however the Pope is the vicar of Christ and therefore holds the truth of the revelation of Christ.
I see that the bigoted Catholic haters have given me thumbs down.
