Shanghai is in China, not SE Asia.

As well as Malaysia, Borneo, Thailand, don't forget that Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) is also part of SE Asia.

Depends on how long you've got, but I'd start in Thailand, and head to Vietnam overland...

you should stay in Hostels (link below) so you meet other like minded young travellers with the same interests - on Hostelworld you can easily find dozens of places to stay that are clean, safe and fun!

Also make sure you do your research, ask for advice on the Lonely Planet Thorntree (biggest travel forum on the net) - check the links below...also, buy the Lonely Planet SE Asia on a Shoestring which includes all of these places...

Happy Trails

All the places mentioned are interesting to visit.... @ Singapore you have the Eco zoo's and theres the Orangutan Orphanage, Orchids every kind imaginable.
for an soon to be adult (you) I would go to any of them places and go walk abouts.
Try getting to Borneo ya got scuba diving snorkeling, treks to Kinabalu Mt, Orangutan orphanage, Turtle island, and a hand full of other islands and the shopping...... well the girls I was with when we went were 17 -16yrs old and they had a great time and wanna go again for the restaurants shopping and to hug another baby orangutan.
It really depends what ya wanna see when ya arrive there.... I would go with an open mind a few dollars and well ya got KFC and micky dees so food aint a problem.
I would like to type it all down but its sunday morning here and well I could go on and on and i can hear the beach calling me.

I know its not much info but if I had to type all of it down I would be here for a week. no matter where ya go you will see and enjoy it emesely

Singapore yes! Lovely and clean. Go to the Clark Keys area for shopping and food. Thailand,Bangkok for the temples and markets,Chiang Mai for tribes and elephant trekking,Vietnam,Ho chi minh city and have dinner on the roof of the Rex hotel and visit the war museum,Borneo for Mount Kinabalu and the Sandakan Orangatan reserve. Have a wonderful trip!

Thailand, not necessarily the capital Bangkok. It is safe and people are friendly. However the answer to this question depends on what is on your mind. Travel is normally done for the following: 1. Business 2. Pleasure. 3.Education

So what is your purpose for travel. I am assuming a bit of the latter two. Thailand will meet the requirements. Food is authentic and delicious, hotels can be cheap or expensive. You will see lots of things depending on where you are in the country; nature in its best form, historic temples, Genies largest restaurant in the whole world where waiters serve food riding roller-skates, etc.

Most important thing is SAFETY and FRIENDLINESS. However, if you want to indulge yourself sexually, be careful (need not say more).
