Hello tina m

Ours is 34 inches to the top. I don't know if this is standard or not but it looks good where it is. The builder installed it & I assume he knew what he was doing.

Dado Rail Height

Now I have these and I have very big windows, 3 metres wide and 1.75 metres high. I don't go along with the half way uppers. It does depend on what you personally want to achieve in the way of a look, good advice there from a number of people. My own preference is for the tie backs to be positioned 1/3 of the way up the curtain from the floor. My other bit of advice is that you need to establish where the the two outer edges of the curtains are going to drop at the side of the window. You don't want the tie backs to pull your curtains beyond this vertical line as you will then not have a nice straight drop at the edges. Have fun, remember it's all in the eye of the beholder and what you think looks good, and are happy with, is all that matters.

If it's on a stair rise the same height as your hand rail. From the floor about 36 inches but it's not an exact science. The best guide is probably how it looks visually in your room or hallway.

dado's are usually designed to prevent your sofa and chairs from marking the walls so ideally should be placed just below the height of your suite? however most people put them above this for show purposes,i ve put mine about 3 inches above the window ledge and worked from this line round the room?

1/3 of the height of the room from the floor

a dado rail was used for reducing marks left by furniture usually the backs of sofas and such...but if you fix the rail at the height of your chairs and sofa then its almost defeating the object because you wont see them so ideally just above you're furniture height for the benefit of full view.

I woulda thought it's personal choice! Hubby reckons about 56 inches, but I say.....it's your dado so you have it as high as you WANT it!
