The programs don't have embedded fonts and all the characters come up as question marks or strange symbols. I have the comp set up to read all non unicode characters as Russian but, still no joy.
Thanx

Thanx, SharpGuy. All Russian related boxes in the regional settings are ticked, still no joy. In the XP help files it says something about foreign programs possibly not working

You need to download the language pack for your region. Go to your control panel, click on Regional Options. Under the General tab, check off the boxes that are for your region (ie Baltic, Cyrillic, etc). After you check the boxes you need, click OK. Once you click OK, it should start downloading the language packs directly from Microsoft. Upon completing the download, the ???? should now appear with the correct letters. I'm pretty sure you don't need to reboot after downloading the packs, so if it doesn't work, try getting some more packs. Heck, it won't hurt anything if you check all the boxes too. If it still does not work, then maybe it does need a reboot after doing that.

I'm pretty sure this will work. Those are the steps you need to do when visiting a website in a foreign country, for example, if I visit a site in Hebrew, I will see a bunch of ??? on the webpage. As soon as I get the language pack, it displays correctly. I have never tried this with a different language program, but I would think it works for programs as well as Internet Explorer.
