Earlier on today I ate some peanuts, almost immediately afterwards my mouth and gums swelled up and now it's ulcerated. Could I have an allergy to nuts?

Yes I would definitely say so. I have been around Nut allergy for years and it is something you must not treat lightly. You must go and be tested. Please do not eat any nuts until you have been tested at a proper Testing centre. You are now at the stage known as the Sensitised Stage. Your body has been alerted to not like this substance. Your antibodies go into overdrive and release massive amounts of chemicals including Histamine. This is dangerous in large amounts and you will need to take Antihistamine to stop it. Your next reaction will be many times worse. Please believe me I do know about Allergies.

I would guess the answer to your question is yes. It's a very common allergy. Go see a doctor.

Please go to the E.R. if your swelling continues. Or if you start having a tightening in your throat. It can take only minutes for your throat to close off the airways to your lungs and you will not be able to breath. Stay away from nuts :)
P.S. That's good advice for any woman:)

it is possible... have a check up... also remember most food contain peanuts, so to be on safe side, until you have been checked over, check the labels on foods to see if it contains any peanuts/nuts before you put anything in your mouth, good luck

Sounds like it could be an allergy. Talk to your doctor and get tested. It's better to get tested and to know exactly what you are allergic to.
