Depends on the quantity of the blood vomited. You may feel the headache/dizziness from either the change in blood flow to the brain that occurs during the process of vomiting... or it could be due to the amount of blood loss.

The cause of the blood in your emesis can be from *MANY* things. Because you don't give enough information, I can't give you a good guestimation. You don't say why you were ill to begin with.

>If you were drinking prior to the vomiting it may be a result of damage done by the drinking. An ulcer can be irritated by drinking alcohol. You should quit drinking to avoid future damage and make sure you don't have other conditions caused by the drinking.
>If you have thrown up a lot, you may have small tears in the esophagus. This type of blood will be small granulated looking pieces. (I've experienced this due to HyperEmesis Gravidarium.) These types of ulcerations can heal themselves over time.

HOWEVER--- If the quantity of blood is larger, or the blood is red, you have something that needs to be investigated by a medical professional. ASAP.
Also- If you discover blood or a tar black substance and strong odor in your stool - get to a Dr. b/c this is serious.

The best way to identify if someone has vomited blood would be the appearance of the vomit. The vomit would look as though there are coffee grains in it ( in medical terms 'coffee ground vomit' ). This is because of the reaction of blood when it hits stomach acid as it is difficult to digest.

If vomit appears this way in any individual you need to get them to an accident and emergency department as soon as possible.

If the vomit is bright red it could be from the oesophagus or something you have eaten. If concerned please seek medical help.

There is bleeding in the stomach, oesophagus or small intestine. Bright red blood is more worrying, as it indicates a massive bleed; darker blood (or "coffee grounds") imply a smaller bleed that has mixed with stomach acid.

It is almost certainly caused by a ulcer (90%).

This is a very serious condition, and whoever suffers from it should immediately go to their nearest hospital. 20% of those with bleeding like this will need surgery, and 10% of those will die from complications. 25% of patients rebleed after admission, and of those 1/3 die.

Vomiting blood is not normal, and it can indicate many things. An ulcer for one, or worse, cancer. But it certainly indicates that medical attention is required. I wouldn't try to figure this one out. Seek the proper help!
