Can someone tell me what the rules are in the 24 hour race... Why are there slower cars on the track? I mean they are running full speed, but they are going really slow in relation to the other cars... How many different classes of cars are there? How are the slower cars supposed to win? I am a huge nascar fan, and I was indy cars from time to time, but I cant figure out this 24 hour race, and the announcers are not giving me much information...

There are different classes of cars and they all run simultaneously. There are only 2 types of cars running at Daytona anymore, the DP (Daytona Prototype) and GT (Grand Touring). There used to be 4 or 5 classes running all at the same time, and still do at other GT or Grand Am races, like Le Mans.

You have class winners and overall winners. There have been years when a GT car, the slower of the two classes running now, has won it overall. It's a race of attrition and endurance. You have to save your car and take care of it. The guys who abuse their equipment and dog it to be out front for a few laps, never finish this race.

I agree, these announcers aren't the best. They seem more concerned with telling their stories or talking about their favorite drivers and ignoring the rest of the field.

Every Minute, in fact i"m debating on going this year depending on the weather forecasts between Toronto and Daytona and my finances after Christmas and New Years :)
