That has nothing to do with martial arts.

Mindset is what he needs. If he could do a full gymnastics run and does not have the mindset for the martial arts, he is not going to be good in the arts.

No. All normal 9 year olds do all kinds of mental feats of agility to let off steam. Including running around like a nutcase, jumping off stuff and yes, front flipping.

I wouldn't consider it a front flip if he's landing sitting down by the way, that really is just hurling your body around. (Only if he can do it from standing upright, and landing in the same position.)

And if he doesn't study martial arts, then no - he hasn't a chance.

I studied karate for 6 years and got my 1st Dan Black Belt (I haven't done it for a few years now mind). Even at my peak however, I wouldn't have thought I'd have a career in martial arts.

If he's really serious about it (which he won't be - being 9 years old). He needs to take up a martial art for many years and do stuff like gymnastics too if he wants to be a film-based martial artist.

Anyone could throw themselves off a sofa forwards and land sitting down if they had to, i promise you it's nothing special.

in my four years of martial arts, (not long i know to some people but i am only 14) i have never seen a front flip used effectivly in a fight, they may look good on the tv programs but they are pretty useless in real fights, gymnastics do increase your flexibility but ive never taken them and im way more flexible than any of the others at my club if he starts a ma class and is actually good he may have a chance, but he will have to work very hard, i would love to enter fighting tournaments, but my parents wont allow me at this age, incase i break my wrist and cant write in my exams, oh well, always kata tournies eh?

Career in what way? Prize fighters aren't anything more than glorified brawlers who show disdain for the true martial way. As for teaching martial arts as a career, no amount of flipping will make a person a better teacher, just mastery.

front flips do not determine the winner of a fight.

life isnt the movies but saying that he does seem to be flexible and athletic which does help when participating in martial arts

dont worry if ur not flexible or athletic it doesnt mean u cant fight it means ull have to master the basics better then anyone else things like punching, headbutts, elbows and guilotines

No. 99% of martial artists/fighters out there can't do a front flip or any specific gymnastic.

no, just because you can do a flip doesn't mean you'd be good at martial arts...traditional martial arts is not the flashy crap you see in movies..it's mind set that takes many years to learn...

flips do not equate to mental quickness or talent of technique. he may be better in a circus. seriously.
though he should also consider martial arts anyway, as should everyone.
