Is it really all about looks. The girl your going out currently is "not that hot" but does she have a good personality? Does she treat you right? Does she make you happy? these are the questions you need to ask yourself in order to determine if you want to stay with her. I would say to not leave your girl for this other girl that you don't know well and who is simply "hot". If you dislike the girl your with now, save her the heartbreak and split of with her then your free to pursue the other girl. Don't date them both at once, drop the first girl if you want the other.

Spend a week or two warming up to the hott one and becomming better friends wuth her and get closer to her and when you think that you are close enough to her ask her out. But make sure you have dumped ur girlfriend and she knows you like her before you ask her out. Let me know how it goes!

If not, leave her, don't hurt her staying with her as your second best.
