retrofitting an afermarket radio involves new wiring, cutting and splicing, and generally lowering the resale value of your car by doing so.

The Polo has standard ISO connectors (unless its brand new with the big double din radio in which case its quadlock).
The pioneer wiring will plug straight in but you will have to swap the red and yellow (ign and permanent feeds).
However if it is a VW badged Sony stereo as standard it may be awkward to remove as some of these were bolted into the dash and you have to remove the whole of the fascia to get to the screws. These stereos also have an alarm built into them which may go off when you disconnect the wires.

You need two special keys and you should be able to get them on e bay or from a branch of Halfords. They go into two slots on the front panel and that releases the spring retainers and the set will come forward. At the back are two DIN plugs which you can pull out by pressing in a tiny plastic lever which is clearly visible. The plug will only fit one way so you cannot make any mistake when putting them back. The ariel simply pushes into the back of the set. If you are intent on changing the set, you will see a threaded locater with a black rubber grommet on, this needs to be fitted on your exchange set or the set will vibrate and cause the CD to jump.Refitting is the opposite of what you have done BUT you need to ensure the cable or routed out of harms way or the set will not go back sufficiently.

go old school, once you get the old radio out disconnect the wires one at a time reconnecting them to the new radio one at a time. or go to a reputable radio shop and most of the time they will sell you an adaptor kit that will just plug in real ease . and they will have a face kit for mounting the new radio in the dash.

you shouldn't need to change any cable but just getting the radio out of the dash can be hard your best bet is to hit halfords and get the special keys and when you change the radio the power will be cons taint so just remember to turn it off when your getting out
