What are my chances now that I'm recently divorced? I'm 41 and have no children of my own, but have a good career which should be in my favor. I can provide well for a child in every possible way. Where should I start, in which I will know it's safe and reliable as far as agencies and services?

I would encourage you to contact the Department of Human Services or your state's equivalent. They can tell you who to work with and get you started on the process.

Well thats great!!! I don't really know any agencies, maybe call some in your phone book, if there are any.Gutumaula & Ethiopia are teh cheapest that I've seen, but ihavent looked at all teh countries. Adopt(ion).com has info on each country & what you do before and & step by steps exc.BUt if you are looking to do foster care I'm sure theres a number to call in your phone book or something. Sorry I dont have more info, i may look a few things up & get back to you. Considering your age I'm sure you would qualify in that respect in whatever country you choose. Good Luck!!

Start with a reputable agency in your area, where you can attend seminars and meetings regularly. Single parents can adopt, however, it may take a little longer, as I am sure most birthparents would like for their child to be raised by a couple. HOEWEVER, don't allow that to discourage your desire to be a great parent! I applaud you, you are mature enough to handle it I am sure. If you go the foster child route, you will experience parenting/mentoring sooner more than likely, and your chances of adopting that child are also a possibility. Good luck to you.

Go to your local Dept of Human Resources. I took a class there about adoption & fostering. Good luck

Another option for you might be CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). While you would not be taking a child into your home, you would be making sure that a child's best interests are being considered in court proceedings.

Good for you, maybe you can adopt a white kid for a change, there are plenty of black and white kids in AMERICA and canada who need help too...not just 3rd world countries.
I want to be doing what your doing at that age too, I think you can do a great job!
