I'm in my own apartment in the most expensive cities in the States, New York, and I need some suggestions for cheap and easy snacks or meals that are particularly high in protein and iron. I'm trying to eat more yogurt and eggs.

ye i'm the same as you, so basically buy lots of chicken (surprisingly cheap and healthy), yogurt is actually quite expensive (but a good snack), eggs, buy one of those huge boxes of oatmeal, some milk, and fish

i buy whole chickens, for about 80 cents a pound then bake them and eat it the rest of the week for lunch, sometimes i eat fish instead

Lentils... they make fantastic soup with some bread and salad on the side ...
and they make for warmer weather a very nice salad (use a vinaigrette dressing and put the lentils over lettuce and decorate it with pieces of tomato and egg....)

Also, chic peas ... make a great dip with just butter, salt and pepper... to spread on a pita with whatever....

You can also get soy milk at the health food store in flavors like carob ... and have a handful of hazelnuts to go with it ... that will give you about 14g of protein or about 25% or your daily requirement...

Iron... well, if you can, liver and onions, with nice spices ...

rice and beans together are a full protein. soak the beans overnight and drain the water before you cook them. you can flavor it with salt, pepper, and a little turmeric and cumin for a more ethnic flavor.
