My cat can open my kitchen's bottom cubboard doors. I now need to have latches installed.
If you have the type of door that he can possibly just pull open, then it's just a matter of time before he does.

I love the answer to this question ......... Can cats open doors? well they have paws so yes if the really want to. I have an 8 month old female that loves to run the block, when she was in heat she would grab hold of the knob and try to turn it. well persistence paid off the last day she got out the door was open when I came around the corner. so the answer is YES!

Yes, they can learn to open doors if it's a handle type. Idea's: 1. replace the opener with a door knob (still not fool proof). 2. Use a hook and eye latch on each side of the door. Place them high enough so kitty can't reach them and lock as you leave and enter the doorway. Good Luck - this is one smart cat! Treasure it.

All 7 of my cats have learned to open the cupboards. Willie also learned how to press the handle on the storm door. I keep that locked now. My Dixie could turn on light switches too. All my cats are beautiful rescued mutts so it's not just Siamese cats.

Oh yes, they can learn to open doors alright. Door knobs are a bit beyond them (lack of opposable thumbs and all that) but I have seen one swinging off a door handle to get through. The only way to stop them if they're determined to learn is to keep the doors firmly shut.

Oh yeah, my cat does. I lived in an apartment with the bar type handle and he figured that out quick. The door knobs he learned while still young (about a year old) and so now he can open all indoor knobs wthout locks. BTW, he is declawed (don't blame me, the roommate did it while I was at work) and I think that helps him grip the door knob.

Yes, cats can indeed learn to open doors, and you're kidding yourself if you think you'll be able to stop it. He's just waiting for you to sleep...or go to work...he's practicing...don't turn your back...you're in the shower...what's that sound? Aaiiiii!!! Seriously, if he's shown an interest and he's getting close, he's probably going to get the hang of it. Your job is to get used to the idea.

Two of my cats have learned how to open doors. The only way to really stop them from doing it, is put the child-proof covers on the knobs. Otherwise, he will eventually be able to open them. Good luck!
