I am a mother of seven kids and I can tell you that each kid varies. My three youngest are boys aged 5,3and 17months, thus I hurried the potty training of both the 5&3yr old a little so as not to have too many in diapers. Although I did that for convenience I realised the younger you start the better.
I started training Gavin(5) when he was just 25months and by the time he was thirty months old he was just wearing a pull up at night. He no longer needs to wear a pull up at night as of three months ago so the night time training did take a while.
Equally I started training Noah(3) when he was 30 months and he is still wearing a pull up at night but has no other accidents.
When my son now 14 was born his next sister was three years old so I had plenty of time to train him i didn;t start until he was just over three and I believ it was harder at that age.
My daughter took the longest out of all of them now 12 she did not stop wearing a pull up at night until she was six and a half, I think that is because I only started potty training her when she was three.
You will learn through trial and error,it can be both frustrating and rewarding but don't panic they will get there eventually. Good Luck

My daughter was 18 months when we potty trained her. She would tell us " I stinky, me need new diaper" so we new it was time. It took only a week and she was fully trianed. My oldest son was 2 1/2 when we started him and was fully trained within a month. My youngest howerver was 3 when we tried and he didnt want anything to do with it. By age 4 he would have no accident during the day but wet the bed at nite until he was 5. One day it just stopped. Kids can be very different when it comes to potty training and some can get werided out about the whole toliet issue!!

At 18 months my husband would take my son in with him when he went to the bathroom to watch how it was done. We also bought the little potty for him to sit on. But I wouldn't really say that was when we really started potty training, it was more like an introductory course. At about 2 years old is when we started encouraging him to try to use the potty. He stopped pooping in a diaper before he stopped peeing in one. We switched to exclusively underpants during the day at about 2 1/2 years old, though he still had occasional accidents until he was about 3. He continued to wear diapers (or pullups) to bed at night until he was about 3 1/2. We were pretty low stress about the whole thing. A reward chart was what really helped put the accidents to an end.

I have a daughter and I started potty training at 2 and she was done by 2 1/2. I heard that boys are a bit harder, but all kids are different. Try putting some cherrios in the toilet and have him aim at them! Make potty training fun!

I started at about 20 months, we rae there, now that he is 3 and a half, but let me let you in on a secret, MOST kids dont like to poop on the potty, and will actaully hold it until you give them a diaper, even if that 5 days, and sometimes by then they get very backed up and need to see a Doctor. the good thing is though kids natuarlly want to advance and be more and more like us grown ups everyday, with possitive reinforcemnt and a good attitude from you, your child will be potty trained, just on their time fram, some are completly trained by 2, other by 4, but I havent met anyone who wasnt potty trained by kindergarden, by then they got it down! Good luck, remember you child has to want this too, if not they will rejecvt it and refuse to go as a "control issue" just like kids do with eating

Male or female, you should begin to introduce the concept of potty training once the child is walking. If the child takes to it, potty training shouldn't take longer than a week (but there will be occasional accidents, of course) If the child is not willing or ready, keep re-introducing the concept every week or so until he/she 'gets it'. Boys often resist until they are given no other option but to use the toilet.

My mother started us potty training between a year to two years old. She said it was easier for us girls, but for my brother, she used the same techniques, sitting him down to use the restroom, but it took longer, because soon after they get that part down you have to stand them up eventually to aim! All in all she said he was completely done at 2 1/2 yrs. Good luck, because in a yr. i will be right were you are! Let me know how long it takes!

My oldest son jacob potty trained himself 2 months before he turn 3 years old. I just made him wear underwears and bought a potty and stuck it in the living room. so finally after peeing on himself so many times. he finally deceided to sit in the potty. after that he deceided he didn't want to wear inderwears anymore.
My middle son Austin didn't wanted to go the potty. so he was getting really big for the pull-ups and he started developing a really bad rash. so he deceided to go potty and not wear pull-ups anymore. he was 3 1/2 at the time.
experts say let them go on their own. when they are ready?
