I am flying via Air France to Italy. I have a layover in Paris. Will I need to clear customs at the Paris airport before boarding the last leg of my flight to Italy?

Flyboy is correct. I have never had to clear customs on any of my overseas flights unless I decide to leave the airport.

If I have at least 4 hours, I will leave the airport and make a quick trip to a museum or a mall. It beats sitting around the airport. Remember that you will have to go through security when you return to the airport so make sure you leave plenty of time.

Yes you do - if you're exiting the airport.
