This is a priest helped us out in paperwork. This ensured that our wedding would go off without a hitch(and on time as scheduled). I was an aquaintence of his years ago in college before he entered the seminary(we weren't best of friends or anything like that at the time).

If he is the priest that performed your ceremony, it is typical to give a cash gratuity but I don't know what the going rate is these day. However, it sounds like this is more of a friend who went out of his way to do a favor for you. It depends on if he is a parish priest or in an order. If he is a parish priest, a nice bottle of liquor or wine, gift certificate to Barnes & Noble, or (depending on how much you want to spend) an iPod, or some other type of fun device that he probably wouldn't spend the money to spoil himself with (but will probably enjoy). If he is in an order and has taken a vow of poverty -- a good gift is one that can be shared by his fellow priests.

convinced, clergymen are a present from God. basically, clergymen are the conduits of the Sacraments, and for that reason of the conventional kinds of God's grace. without clergymen there must be no eucharist and no forgiveness by ability of confession. even though it is likewise authentic to assert that we are all God's present to at least one yet another. Cardinal Newman, (who's quickly to be beatified through the Pope) had this to assert on the concern. "God has created me to do him some certain provider; he has dedicated some artwork to me which he has no longer dedicated to a distinct. I have my project – i'd under no circumstances recognize it in this life, yet I will study it interior the subsequent. i'm a link in a sequence, a bond of connection between persons. He has no longer created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do his artwork. I will be an angel of peace, a preacher of actuality in my personal position even as no longer proceeding it- if I do yet save his commandments. hence i am going to believe him."

If you can find out what he likes, anything like that is appropriate. Priests are people like anyone else. They might like a good scotch, a nice shirt or pants, nice money clip, shaving kit, lots of different things. I would ask around and find out his tastes and go from there.....

A donation would be nice, or if you can't afford one try something small like an angel figurine.
