As with each decision of mortal life it will always be a case of looking over the fence, alot of what ifs. You probably do it all the time, " oh if only i'd dated so and so or if only I would have waited for that guy etc. etc. The point is we really dont understand the perspective we are at in our lives until we expericence it. Then iits just a question of embracing the position we are the most comfortable with. But you will always say what if.

Interperatation is everything!
I think he is saying that when choosing between marriage or celibacy, at some point a man will regret his previous choice.


I must say that Socrates was a smart man!

What Socrates is saying is that if you get married you will regret it. However, if you choose NOT to get married you will also regret that. Socrates may have been the first absurdist since he seems to think that no matter what you do you will regret it.

He is saying you will regret your decision either way,which I must say is ridiculous he apparently was never satisfied,and assumed no one else could ever be either...
