For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6/10

Perhaps the most misquoted verse in the Bible?

Not necessarily; in fact it can be the source of a lot of goodness - just look at what philanphropists like Bill Gates are doing with their money in the third world.

The desire for power over other people is the root of all evil - and money is one way of getting that.

Number one it is the WANT of money that is the root of all evil really. To help explain your question, Money is like a tool, and its very hard to build without tools, correct? Even harder to help others without any funds to help with. How do people think the light bill and water etc get payed in their church? Those things are not free.It would be nice if they were. Also the preacher may want to eat to.

Money is not the root of all evil. The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money is a physical, tangible object. To Love money, you place more importance into tangible objects than you do your family, your God and yourself. It is not evil to possess money or to use money. It is evil to have a want for money that you place above all else.

Money is not evil, only ones intention and attitude towards it. As for the churches, they are losing their congregrations and now lack decent donations. But really though, who does not hanker after money ?

another example of a twist on Scripture. The bible says "money is the root of all kinds of evil"...it never said ALL evil.

Jesus had money, his minstry had money, no one ever said that being poor was part of of being a Christian.
