Every time I meet a woman that I am interested in, I have a big problem! (no not that!). When we are getting to know each other everything is fine, but when I invite her back for coffee and things start getting amorous, I feel compelled to do one of two strange things.

Either I bring out my world atlas of 'fascinating lesser-known stamps' of the world (scintillating I assure you!), or I try to do my amazing impression of a Chicken barking. Both activities lead to another night alone in my 'rare heroes from Enid Blyton novels' pyjama's and a mug of lukewarm Cocoa.

How do I stop myself doing this?.

Sounds like everything is going good if she comes back for coffee....the date must go well! Maybe you should have wine, it may help you chill out a little bit. If that's not an option, ask her about herself....let her do the talking. Don't bark like a chicken, though. That's just wrong...just don't do it!!

Maybe after dinner, go dancing or something to show your fun side, but you still have a chance to get to know each other, then if you bark like a chicken a few dates later it won't matter because she already knows you and likes you!

Really it depends upon the context for these things, for one thing. Do you try to show her why you like the stamps and try to get her input on them too - or do you just show them and talk at her for hours on end? Do you bring the barking thing into a conversation topic - or do you just bark the whole night? (hint - the first of the 2 options may bring better results)

Otherwise, like the others have said, you need to find a girl who appreciates your humor and interests.

Also very important, if you think those are your quirks, people are ok with quirks if there is more to you than that (which there is if she comes back to your place). Take some time to get to know her interests and her quirks as well rather than showing all of yours first!!

Side - maybe those 2 things are not the best for the first date...

I would ask for some advice from a guy you admire who doesn't do these things. Don't be afraid if he makes fun of u-i mean, youre only trying to get better! Keep asking these ppl for advice and you will pick up some tips on how to/not to act around women. I would also put that stamp book somewhere where she cant see it and i would NOT chicken bark-so not a turn-on.....All the best!

Hi Sid S,

Yes, there is a time and place for everything. Bring out your stamp collection afterwards where if she runs out of your place, it isn't that big a loss.

Lock up your stamp atlas/album and get some cool music for added ambience.

Simple don't stop doing it. They have got to know the real you to love you. If you don't you will only end up living a lie. Best of luck finding someone who accepts you for who you are.

You've probably heard this before, but it is usually easiest to get people talking if you ask them about themselves, what is your favorite movie, what is you job like etc. Altho my daughter is very shy and grown, and would probably give you yes, no answers because of her shyness. I guess you have to find something that really interests them if they are shy. What is their passion ? My daughter has a major in Biblical Studies and that is one thing she will talk about even tho she is shy. She is 28 and marrried.
