My teeth are chipped, discolored and they just look bad. I never smile or talk just because I don't want to show my teeth. Are porcelin veneers good for solving that problem? About how much would it cost to have that done?

No one should feel embarrassed to smile and I'm sorry that you feel this way.
Porcelain veneers are like a "false fingernail" that is bonded or glued to your tooth. They can give the illusion and appearance of straighter teeth, they can also lengthen the tooth.
They are made from porcelain, so the colour that you chose, is the colour they will be. A suggestion, if you are unhappy with the colour of your teeth now, I would recommend "whiting" your teeth before this procedure. That way, when the colour is chosen, the your teeth will look fantastic.

The procedure is to polish a finishing line along the gumline, still in the enamel and an impression is taken so that the veneer can be made.
When the dentist cements the veneer, he/she should give you a mirror so that you can have a look at the appearance before the veneer is cemented. This procedure costs vary from $800 to $1300 per tooth. But remember, these are glued onto your tooth and you need to maintain them. Tearing into plastic bags, biting tablets or finger nails could chip the procelain - as it would your natural teeth.

Have a talk with your dentist as porcelain veneers may not be the option for you. You could consider bonded composite veneers, which are done in the chair and these are bonded directly onto your tooth. These are less expensive and you can still get fantastic results. The disadvantage is they do stain over a period of time and you are limited to shades of the composite. These costs vary from $250 to $450.

Good luck with your decision.
Glad to be of help.

Pocelain venners are probably your best bet. There are 2 different options though one is a porcelain jacket the other is a laminate. Ask your dentist which will be better but from what you have told me I am guessing that a laminate is what you need and want. They are like a shell that go on top of your regular teeth. The dentist will match the shade of you other teeth so that these teeth look nice and natural in your mouth. Your teeth might need some prepping but that is no big deal. I chipped my 2 front teeth when I was 8 yrs old and I have had laminates ever since ( i am 24 now)

The cost will vary depending on where you live but check with a couple dentists in your area and you will get a good estimate on how much it will cost you. Also see if your insurance will cover some or all of the cost.

I would go with braces. Part of your natural tooth much be taken off for veneers and I wouldn't recommend losing any natural tooth structure. Also, veneers tend to be more trouble than they are worth because they pop off all the time and have to be recemented.

Porcelain veneers are very good if you can afford out of pocket here as insurance will not cover. Or just in about two weeks you can have your self esteem restored in India or Thailand or Dubai. Look for your Hollywood dream smile in India or elsewhere of choice.
