How do I teach my 2 9 week old kittens to stop biting me? It isn't like a vicious or angry thing, they just bite my hand sometimes when they are excited or laying down on me. I have had them for about a week, and they just started biting today. What should i do when they bite me? I don't want them to develop biting habits as cats... I have heard that it works to leave the room as soon as they start, and that would work sometimes for me, however i sleep with them and i don't really want to leave my bedroom just because they are biting me. Does this really work, and are there any other ways to stop them?

Hi Miso, this is a fairly normal problem for kittens, so don't worry, and the good news is there's lots you can do to fix it. First of all, the most important thing is not to encourage the kittens to use your hand as a play thing. I know how tempting it is to wiggle your fingers and watch their heads turn... but if you present your hand as an object to attack they will think of it that way. Besides that, when the kittens attack your hand don't bat back, they'll think you're playing. Pick them up by the scruf of their neck, and right as you do that firmly say no, and set them on the floor facing away from you. The best thing to do will be to right then and their redirect their attention with something else. You may want to invest in some toys, but a great one for redirecting their attention is a pen cap, throw it across the floor and they will love to chase it. Dragged belts are another great home remedy. As above, investing in toys is nice but make sure to rotate through them so they don't get bored. You leaving the room is a great start, another one is locking them out of the room. If they are biting you especially bad at night in bed, try playing with them hard for awhile before to get some energy worn out. The biggest thing right now is to redirect their energy in a positive way, because they're kittens, and like kids, energy is normal - and good! So, enjoy playing with them while they are little, and just know that once they reach a year or two of age it shouldn't be an issue. im 18 and we've had 8 cats in the time i've been alive, 3 kittens right now. our kittens will bite all the time, but not in a mean way (just like yours). i'll also walk into a room and see them biting random things like a blanket or something.dont feel like this is something u have to discourage because its not like they'll grow up to be biting cats and bite you all the time. cats will always bite when they are playing, but some of it is that their teeth are coming in right now and that biting will stop sooner or later on its own. if the biting while playing really bothers you then i suggest get some cat toys for them to bite instead of your hand.

Learn to hiss like their mother did. A mother cat will hiss at her kitten when they get too rambunctious with her. The kits quickly learn that hissing means "back off, or you're going to get hit." Any cat you hiss at stops what they are doing and pays attention (especially when the sound comes out of a human). First, in a firm (but not angry and not necessarily loud) say "NO" and follow it with a hiss. Eventually, they will know that NO means the same as a hiss. If one won't take a hiss for the warning it is, hiss again (and if you can do it loud and long, it's really iimpressive) and do a one finger (using the palm side, not the nail side) swat NOT TO THE FACE (never aim for the face) but along its shoulder. Mother cats will use an open, non-claw paw to quickly swap a rowdy kitten as she hisses. They'll stop biting quickly enough.

They bite you only sometimes? When my cat Midas was a kitten, I couldn't move without him attacking me! He just thought of it as playing. I know it's hard not to do this, but don't push them away(if that's what you do), because they will only think you are playing. haha. I learned that the hard way. There's nothing you can really do. Not everything everyone tells you works. Maybe for some cats. But with mine, nothing worked on him. I just had to let him grow out of that "I want to attack everything" stage. It sucked, but nothing else worked.

IMHO, that is totally popular and we've only were given our 2 raised out of the kitten degree. One will be more desirable dominate than the different, yet when the play receives too problematical, the a lot less dominate will enable the different recognize through bailing or biting lower back. that is how they study cat concepts - by ability of play, agressive play, a thanks to take care of themselves....... I found the following link helpful. That and they often do it to bring in their adult teeth, so it normally doesn't last long. Just don't let them get into the habit of doing it. My cat I have now we just gave him a stuffed dog and he gets to bite that and nothing else. They'll learn, cat's are very smart. Hope this helps you out.

This is called sap sucking which means there not use to the idea of not haveing there mothers nipple so they tend to bite you or suck on your skin cause your skin produces some kind of salt which kittiens like, sometime kittiens bite to play around but some are just streghting there teeth try getting them something to chew on, my kitten the first day i got it it bit me cause it wasnt use to me and it wasnt use to not haveing its mommy around but it will get use to it and you will have two little precious angels.

A cat is nothing more than a 3 yr old child. Treat them the same way.

Say "no" in a stern voice, not yelling, just stern. They will understand. They want to please you so they will listen.

You can talk to a cat, treat a cat, etc exactly like a 3 yr old and you will master the cat. They are smarter than most give them credit.
