to answer your question no microsoft made office xp compatable with windows 98 but once office 2003 came out then it wasnt you should be fine for a while so office 2007 will run on your computer

no it is not requried office 2007 can be installed on all xp platforms

No that I know of...I will double check at Microsoft.com. I think Microsoft would be smart enough to make it Windows compatible.
I think it makes business sense.
