you have to get a chair, bench, etc. to lift yourself up and focus on the lowering (negative) portion of the exercise. try to do 3 sets of as many negatives as you can do.

Pushups until you can't do anymore, rest 5 minutes, then do it again 2 more times. Do this twice a day for awhile and you'll gradually get stronger. Also, try pyramids: Do 1 pullup, then 10 pushups, 2 pullups, 10 pushups, 3 pullups, 10 pushups, then go back down, doing 3, 2, and 1 with more pushups in between. As you get stronger, increase the pullups and pushups. Do this once a day. The main thing is to increase your upper body strength, and the easiest way to do this is by pushing and pulling your own body weight.

pull-ups mainly involve the lats and rear delts. you can work on the movement itself by doing the lat pull-down machine, or finding one of those machines in the gym that take off a certain amount from your bodyweight, allowing you to do a pull-up easier.
another approach would be to strengthen those two muscles with target exercises. lats can also be worked by a barbell/dumbbell pullover. rear delts can be worked by a rear lateral raise.
