I went to a tire place today and they started telling me about the different tires recommended for my car and the letters (S, T, H, etc.) representing what is the best tire for your car (mine is an H). I'm confused!!! How can I find out the best mid-price range ($69-89) tire for my 99 camry v-6. the tire number (whatever that is) is P2056515H. If anyone can help - I would appreciate it so much! I don't want to get ripped off.

Just get Michelin tires and you'll be okay. They are good all year round tires, last long and have good traction. Might be a few bucks more but are worth every penny.

The letters....S, T, H are speed ratings. The faster the car can go, the letter on the tire changes to be able to handle that speed. If your current tire is an H rated, then just stay at H rated unless you are a speed nut with a lead foot then maybe bump up one level to be safe.

You have a P205 65 15 H. Meaning its passenger (p), width is 205, height of tire is 65 and the rim size is a 15" and its speed rated at H (believe this is like 120mph).

I work at a tire plant, actually making tires.
If all of your tires are the same speed rating, 'H' then I would suggest keeping any new tire you buy at the same rating. All those numbers you listed are your tire size, that HAS to remain the same!!

May I recommend an exceptional tire? Cooper Tires are an unbelievably high quality tire brand. Our inspectors throw away HUNDREDS of tires every SHIFT for failing to meet the smallest detail. I was seriously confused about this when I first started working there. But that's how stringent they are about the product.

Besides, these tires are still made in America, not many manufacturers can claim this. Think about the quality of tire you ride on that is made in China to a poor soul making $2 an hour. Getting under-paid workers to do a very hot, smokey and hard job such as making tires does have an effect on quality. You get what you pay for.

Take care.

Here is a tire that you should look at Toyo Proxes TPT (Total Performance Touring Tire) this tire comes with a 40k mileage warranty, a 500 mile or 45 day trial offer, and is priced where you want to be. I have sold quite a few different products and I like Toyo Tires. Yes Michelin is a fantastic product but pricey.... with Toyo you get the best quality at the best value.
