Ok, I'm a girl, so my perspective may not work out as well, but hear me out. My guy friend has the same problem and what he does is this.
1.) towel dries his hair
2.) Put styling gel in your wet hair
3.) Scrunch your hair using your hands.
Do that for about 5 - 7 minutes, then after that, leave it to dry. That should keep your hair scrunched. GoOd LuCk!

The point to scrunching is to make your look fuller and maybe a bit wavy, kind of a neat mess. So you spray in a styling gel and use a difuser on a blow dryer, you do not want direct full blowing on your hair or it will make it frizzy or straight, you want indirect heat to dry it, mean while with the other hand you grab your hair and scrunch it upward so that it drys in the scrunch, disheveled "neat mess" that scrunching is. turning your head upside down while doing this is beneficial too because it lifts your hair at the roots to give more volume. The main thing to remember is to use your hands, not a brush or comb because that will straightne out your hair.

Use gel, at least a quarter size and put it on your hair when it's wet. If you air dry it, keep scrunching it with your hands to add some volume, even putting your head upside down while scrunching it. You can also put a defuser on your blow dryer, your girlfriend can help you understand what that is ;-)

When your hair is almost dry, add some hairspray for volume.

Good luck!

a million) save on with thermal/styling spray to hair 2) blow dry until eventually practically dry yet fairly damp 3) save on with pomade/wax/scrunching product 4) utilising huge styling clamps, clamp all of your hair up so it is off your shoulders 5) take a million inch products of hair out of the clamp and cave in in the route of your roots like you're crumpling somewhat of paper. 6) gently spritz with a good conserving hairspray (note: some people choose now to not clamp their hair up, yet i locate that it receives rid of frizz, and in case you attempt to scrunch with all of your hair down it can make you chop back to rubble waves you've already scrunched. yet i evaluate scrunching a rather own equipment, so that you're going to maximum in all probability tweak this to make it artwork on your hair and time body.) 7) palms Off! once you've achieved the perfect waves touching them will only grant you with frizz. good luck!

my little sister scrunches her hair and what you should do is wash your hair..towel dry it..and then apply some scrunching mousee (pantene) when hair is damp..almost dry and just squeeze hair and slightly raise your hand as you do this and your hair should look good but it might not work if your hair is all one length i think it would work a lot easier if you got layers in your hair.

first get some gel and use the gel in a twirling motion around hair and scrunch to give the wavy look.

I'd do what the second person said. I'm a girl, and I do that with my hair. (my hair is a couple inches above my shoulders) and it works for me. I use the Garnier product line.
