Hello. Yesterday I developed a stinging pain when I take really deep breaths, or stretch the wrong way in my back, near the bottom of my right shoulder blade. It's almost like a stinging pain, and doesn't feel like a mucsle thing. Also, the area seems to have gone numb. I'm 30 yrs old, and in relatively good shape.

Sound like anything to worry about, or should I give it a couple of days to go away?

OK, thanks everyone. I'll give it a few days to see if it goes away. I was just concerned because it just happened yesterday at work when I wasn't doing anything, and the type of pain is very weird, almost like a stinging sensation, like a bad cut. And it circles around under my armpit.

I'll post back in a few days to let you folks know if it went away.

Probably a PINCHED NERVE. Get a good massage, go to a doctor, ask some expert about it.

There are 3 major conditions that can be causing this scenario (and a whole bunch of other small ones). Oh and btw, stress can play a factor in all of them. 1) Muscle imbalance caused by posture. 2) Spinal misalignment 3) A combination of both 1 & 2. I would recommend that you see a chiropractor. He will be able to tell you exactly what is going on. He will also be able to realign your spine and give you exercises to strengthen the proper muscles in your back. Btw, the exercises the previous responder gave are good. but if they don't help, start with a chiropractor intead of a physical therapist(PT). PT's can not realign the spine. I wish you the best of luck.

It sounds to me like you have something wrong in your neck, and the pain you are feeling is a severe muscle spasm. I would concentrate on the neck area with heat/massage working down to the shoulder blade area. You should see some relief, however, if this continues I would definitely go to the doc. Good luck.

Maybe your shoulder is inflammed, you could maybe use ice or take some Ibuprofen, such as Advil or Motrin. Try going to www.webmd.com and check your symtoms. If not better in a couple of days maybe go see the doctor.

i get a burning, tingly stinging pain down my right arn, and my fingers do go numb. the doc told me it was a pinched nerve. i don't know if that would e of any help to you but our conditions sound similar. i'd try daily stretching, if it doesn't get better, ice it and see a doc. sorry if i wasn't much help :/
