My suggestion is to get something that has good safety ratings, and is cheaper to insure. You may want to contact an insurance company to see what sorts of cars are cheaper to insure. A lot of young drivers crash Civics, so the insurance is higher.
If you are looking for an inexpensive new car, the Chevy Aveos are very nice. They are surprisingly fun to drive. Or a Chevy Cobalt.
You may also consider looking at used cars, but be careful. You may want to have a male friend who is good with cars to go with you so he can inspect it and if you test drive, he can listen for any possible problems with it. Plus, there are a lot of salespeople who don't respect women.
My first car was a Volkswagen Bug. It was great. They are safe. and you can find used ones rather inexpensive now.
Good luck! It is very exciting to get your first car!

Best deal on a car for a new driver is the Chevrolet Prizm. They no longer sell them so it will have to be used. The Chevy Prizm was a deal between Chevy and Toyota. Actually the Prizm is the Toyota Corolla but with Chevy emblems on the car. You can even look where the back license plate goes and it will say TOYOTA.
These are good deals cause:
1. Its a Toyota
2. Safe car
3. Small car
4. Good on gas
5. Cheap to repair
6. Few grand cheaper due to Chevy emblems over Toyota ones
7. 2 different companies to buy parts from or to have service done

The Toyota Camry. 1996-2002. various the stupidest, worst drivers force those. heavily- stay in Vancouver for some weeks and also you'll recognize precisely what I mean. i have come to some extent the position if i see a foul motive force, i search for the Camry script on the trunk lid- to me Camry is an excuse note meaning "fool" as far as rude, obnoxious drivers, i'm with you; SUV each and every of ways. autos are up there in smaller cities too.

I agree, Toyotas and Hondas are good cars. If you are planning on buying a new car, what I say next won't apply. If you buy a used car make sure to have a mechanic check it over before you purchase it. Knowing what the cars problems are is important so you know how much you have to spend on repairs. Although, in my case, I had a mechanic look at the car I was buying and say it was fine but I have had to do about $400 worth of work (more if a mechanic did it) on it.
