My very favorite is the WavePad suite by NCH:
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.ht...
It has multiple applications for different types of file manipulation and best of all, it's truly free. No BS, no pressure to buy, no crapware - just a very robust, professional, and easy to use set of apps for all your multimedia editing needs.
Take care and enjoy!

Well, if you have iTunes, it will do both for you (for free!)
It's simple and setting it up should only take a couple of minutes (after setup, it's very easy)
1) Set the preferences to convert to MP3 (see below)
2) If the file isn't already in iTunes, add it to your library (play it)
3) Right click the file (ctrl+click on a mac) and press convert
The first thing you want to do is to tell iTunes to convert to mp3. Go to iTunes->Preferences->Advanced->Importing.
For, "Import Using...", you want MP3 encoder.
For "Setting", most people find a great blend between size (not big files) at 128kbps, which most consider "CD Quality Sound:".
Hit "OK" (or close your preferences, depending on the version).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After that, you can right click any file in iTunes, and hit the "convert to MP3" option.
If it doesn't work, or says "Convert to WAV/AAC", repeat the above steps, making sure you save your preferences correctly.
Hope this helps!

Adobe had a SoundEditor that was in a tester phase. Called Audition. The Linux crowd is waiting for 30 more days to see if Ubuntu Studio is any good. Release promised in April. Search for Studio64, another product. It runs as a LiveCD (linux OS) and I suppose you would only have to dedicate some storage somehow on your system. SoundBlaster had the software I always used because they can do .midi. .Midi takes separate channels to do the sound.

These converters are not free, except for trial. If you go to wmatomp3.com, and download : MP3 Converter 5.0 for $ 9.95
That's the best I could do. Good luck.

Check out these tools. http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/gmm/fwaudiocodec.html
They're all totally free and if they don't work you can just get rid of them by uninstalling - they don't carry spyware; I've trusted this site for over ten years and have found some excellent tools on there.
