Joseph Smith needs no defense. He and his brother Hyrum sealed their testimony in their own blood. Praise to the Man who communed with Jehovah, Jesus anointed that prophet and seer. Blessed to open the last dispensation; Kings will extol him and nations revere. Hail to the prophet ascended to heaven traitors and tyrants now try him in vain. Mingling with Gods he can plan for his brethren, death cannot conquer the hero again.
I like you know he was and is a prophet of God and as in the 11th Article of Faith:
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
There were a 1/3 of the host of heaven cast out for rebellion along with Satan; the same will hold true for this Second Estate, not everyone will be able to enjoy exaltation and eternal life because of the use of their agency. This is a sad but true fact. We must lead by example and as the Savior did; with patience and long suffering. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet and I know that Jesus is the Christ. I also believe man will be punished for their own sins and not Adam's transgression.

I will admit I don't know him very well. But, why does he have to be a Prophet? Can't we accept him as a very learned man. He has returned some of the thinking back to the way it was before Christ changed it. We must leave the entire Word of God (Bible) as God-breathed and unalterable as it is written.
Paul states he was given a revelation from God at his conversion. He never changes the words of Christ, nor does he return the instructions back, although he does a good job of showing the Jews how to live the Word within the context of the New Covenant.
We don't refer to Paul a prophet, nor any of the Gospel writers for that fact.
People think that if they call an "Informed" person a prophet this will give them more credibility.
Many of the non-canonical books are still worthy of study. They're just not considered God-breathed.
I would read the "Book of Mormon" and see what knowledge could get from the reading of it. But I wouldn't put it in the same category as the Bible. Sorry
God Bless.

Alright, I tried to be nice. Bring it on??? okay
Authority of the Prophet: The president or prophet of the church is
thought to be the sole spokesman and revelator of God. Joseph Smith was the initial prophet, but each successive president holds that position. Through him God’s will can be made known to the church. All revelations are made scripture and no Mormon can attain godhood without accepting Joseph Smith as a true prophet. The Mormon scriptures state that Latter-day Saints “shalt give heed unto all his [the prophet’s] words and commandments . . . For his word ye shall receive as if from mine
[God’s] own mouth” (Doctrine and Covenants 21:4–5).
Biblical Response: Old and New Testament prophets were God’s
spokesmen. Their words were always consistent with the Bible and pointed to God’s Son, Jesus Christ. A test of genuineness for prophets was that any prediction they proclaimed would come true (Deut. 18:20–22). For example, Joseph Smith predicted that the temple of the church would be built in Independence, Mo., within his lifetime (Doctrine and Covenants 84:2–5). No temple has yet been built there. New Testament prophets spoke, along with teachers, pastors, and evangelists, in evangelizing with and edifying the church (Eph. 4:11–13).

I am answering the seagull question. When mormons settled in the area there were a bunch of crickets that infested their crops and it looked like they would lose all their crops and starve for the coming winter. Then out of nowhere seagulls came and ate all the crickets saving the crops. Seagulls clearly arent native to Utah so it was considered a miracle. Those crickets, bytheway, are now called mormon crickets. And the seagull naturally became a very welcomed bird symbol to the area.

I am not sure what the question was, but I think I understand your frustration: People can be cruel when they don't understand something. I will tell you first of all, I am a Born Again Christian and I do not follow the teachings of Joseph Smith.
I do not condemn anyone who does, I just believe what I believe and I give you the same right to believe what you want to believe.
Regardless of who we follow, or who we believe, we should do everything out of love for God and people.
I choose to debate the scriptures in a loving manner, treating everyone with respect. I do not attack people personally or judge them. I leave this to God, He alone will judge us.
I prefer to engage in one on one conversation in a friendly, non threatening manner.
God Bless You for your courage to take a stand.
Peace, and may God fill you with wisdom.

It is interesting to note that on March 20, 1826 Joseph Smith was found guilty of fraud in Bainbridge, New York. He had been selling his services by claiming to find buried treasure through the use of a "seer stone." When he failed to produce for several of his customers, he was convicted as an imposter.

He claimed that there were six foot tall people dressed like Quakers living on the moon. Brigham Young went one step further and said they lived on the Sun. Smith had a license to sell liquor in Illinois. It is documented. The original BoM was edited. D&C had more verses. I did prohibit 'hard drink' but went on so say 'soft drink' was OK in moderation, and no, I don't think it was refering to pepsi.
He was convicted of "money digging" using the same stone he used to translate the golden plates, that no one else ever saw, to write the BoM. His prophecies did not come true, and Jesus did not return when he was 84
You have to believe in him and KNOW he was right. That is how your church works, putting the burden of proof upon you.

ok here is one for you,
All Nations would be involved in the American Civil War - "Verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls; 2 And the time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place. 3 For behold, the Southern States shall be divided against the Northern States, and the Southern States will call on other nations, even the nation of Great Britain, as it is called, and they shall also call upon other nations, in order to defend themselves against other nations; and then war shall be poured out upon all nations," (Doctrine and Covenants 87:1-3).
Here is what the bible says about false prophets
"But the prophet who shall speak a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21 "And you may say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ 22 "When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him," (Deut. 18:20-22).

2 Corinthians 11:3-4
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
is not the book of Mormon another account of the messiah, hence another gospel? and wouldn't it make sense that the person who brings another gospel is a false prophet even if he received the book from an angel, being Satan and his followers can still bear the form of an angel of light because they are all deceivers and they all were angles of light at one time?
