If there's anything to be learned from 800 years of Irish history, it's that Britannia waives the rules. Get used to it, my friend. They're inveterate liars and thieves who have never honored a treaty or an agreement in their long, sorry history. Ask some of their happy former imperial hosts, such as the Indians, the Kenyans, the Maori, the Quebecois, etc...

EDIT: for those of you invoking the will of the people of the Malvinas, would you feel the same way if the people of the Isle of Wight voted to become Argentinean?

Scotland will be free when a majority of the people who live there vote for independence. The same applies to las Islas Malvinas. Until then, the Islands, which you name after some Frenchman, will be called the Falklands. You must remember that when you stupid Gauchos took over the islands, Argentina was a filthy dictatorship where people disappeared. The Argentine people did not even run their own country. It takes two to tango Che! Once your country becomes civilised, and rich, the people in the Falklands will want to join you but not until then,

Because they're too strategically valuable. The people of the Falkland Islands had a referendum and almost entirely voted to stay as a British protectorate, give the people what they want - however much the Argentinans may want to get the islands back, the people there don't want it, so they WOULD rebel against Argentine rule.

It was the Islanders themselves that stopped the British from handing the islands over to Argentina in the 70s, because they voiced their opposition. The people of the islands want to remain with the British Crown and belief in the principle of democracy means that their wishes have to be taken into account.

The main and most important reason is that the people who live in The Falkland Islands are and want to remain under the protection of BRITAIN (NOT England - again, when will you people get your heads around this?!) and whilst that continues to be the case Britain will do everything in its power to protect their interests and defend them against invasion from foreign powers.
