Depends on your context. "Alcohol" includes methanol, ethanol, propanol...basically anything with the suffix -ol is an alcohol.
"Denatured Spirits" is a term for ethanol that's been adulterated in order to make it unfit (poisonous) to drink. Generally, methanol and jet fuel (JP-5) are added to denature ethanol.
Technically, all alcohols are poisonous. That's why they work so well as preservatives. However, ethanol has the least harmful effects and side effects of them. Methanol breaks down in the liver to create compounds that attack the nervous system...hence "going blind." Propanol (usually see as rubbing alcohol, or isopropanol) also destroys the liver and other parts of the body from the compounds that it breaks down into. If you read the safety information on either of these chemicals, you'll find that the treatment for accidental ingestion is to "administer dilute ethanol orally" which translates to "drink some booze." What happens there is that the liver is busy breaking down the toxic alcohols and when the booze shows up to be processed, its by-products dilute the nasty compounds from the toxic alcohol and their effects are diminished.

There are many types of alcohol. Don't drink denatured alcohol unless you want to go blind & die.
