I had suffered from chronic sciatic pain for years. This coming February 4th will be one year that i have been pain free!
Please listen with an open mind.
I healed myself without even knowing it. In short , one year ago my (wonderful) husband and I were going through one of those viscous cycles that some couples get caught up in. Because I love my husband more than anything in this world, I was totally focused on our relationship. We talked, but mostly it was like a recording of the past talks. Frustrated,Hurt and in disagreement with much that he said, I took to my bedroom took out a notebook and starting writing a letter to him, I had released all these repressed emotions I was feeling.
The more I wrote the clearer things became, I became aware that I was holding back and not expressing my true feelings, on alot of different subjects. For example, not feeling in control of finances, instead of taking control I was displacing my anger at him. Thats just one.
After writing my heart out, It was alot easier to go to my husband and voice exactly what was on my mind, and how certain things made me feel. Some apologies were made, tears shed and hugs shared.
That evening we went to bed exhausted, but happy to be in eachothers arms and relieved that we have gotten through yet again another viscous cycle of nonsense and this time with alot more insight.
The next day was Monday, while my husband was off at work, I sat down at the computer to do some myself, Well after about two hours I had a realization, I hadn't fidgeted or got up to stretch the whole time. This was very unusual, considering that i have been suffering with this constant sciatic pain for a very long time. As I questioned my actions in the last two hours I realized I had no pain!
No Pain ..In complete awe..I stood up walked around my living room, and began crying . I couldn't believe it , I felt nothing ,it was gone completely gone.
The pain that had altered my life in many different ways, was gone "What happened" I asked myself. Then it hit me, I was true to myself and let my feelings out.
Please give your husband a pad and a pen ,tell him to write his heart out. Everyone has something that troubles them, worries them,or has stresses put on them. Another thing I've learned is to let go of all guilt and resentments, it is a waste of time and holds us in the past .Let them all go.
Tonite, when he goes to bed, tell him to tell himself
he is strong enough to deal with anything it is he has to deal with, and he no longer needs this pain to distract him.
I wish you all the best

The first thing that I would recommend is that he take out that big fat wallet and give all the money in it to you so you can go shopping.. HA HA All kidding aside, sometimes the pressure of a wallet pushing on the sciatic nerve could cause numbness and or pain in the buttock and down the back of his thigh. It could even travel down to the ankle. I would definitely get a second opinion. I see a pain management Doctor which specializes in areas of the spine. With the help of an MRI we were able to localize the area and focus on that only. I have been to Physical Therapy several times which only irritated the problem and prolonged my pain. Don't mess around with this, see a specialist and don't stop until you find a solution. Remember the Doctors work for YOU. You wouldn't put up with an operator who wouldn't answer the phone would you? Of course not! Find a Doctor that can help your husband, I'm sure he's worth it.
I'm a recovering addict and refuse to take any narcotics that could jeopardize my recovery, so I take really hot baths with Epsom salts in the water, this really helps with the pain. Another thing I do is to stretch the musicals in my back, keeping the musicals loose and flexible. I don't know if your husband is in any pain, but I wanted to offer these suggestions just in case.
God Bless and watch over you and yours.

I've had a similiar problem for years. I don't know if it is the same as your husbands. My problem came about from lifting a heavy weight incorrectly (wrong posture) - I was moving to a new place. My problem was diagnosed by a doc. He said that there was a disc pushing on the outside of my spinal cord. The pressure was just enough to cause a burning, numbness, and a stining, tingling sensation, which at times, especially at night caused me a lot of discomfort. My left leg (outer thigh) was the only leg affected. The only remedy at the time was surgery. However, the doc said I would only need to have surg. if I began to have muscle weakness in my leg. I never developed weakness. Therefore, I've just lived with the problem. With me, after awhile, I began to feel less pain. However, there are times when it really does get to me. When you experiance weakness that means that the disc is pressing not only on the outside of the s. column, but more towards the inner part of the spinal column. This would imply a more serious injury. It sounds like, based on your description of what your husband does for a living probably caused this injury. If he continues to lift a lot of shovel loads every day than he better get some help on how to lift correctly each time he shovels. He may need to rest to give his back time to heal - perhaps it's temporary inflamation only. Rest would be the best thing for him. Also, he needs to see a Doctor and get xrays asap. I hope this response helps. This is only my experience and my opinon only. Please seed medical help. G

If you are referring to your family doctor I think you are seeking information in the wrong place. Pain meds sometimes cover up the problem for awhile but after a time they do not work as well because you body gets almost immune to them. That is why people start taking more and more to get a good result. Please call your local doctor referral service or contact your local hospital for the right type of specialist. Getting a back adjustment like suggested above is not the answer in my opinion.

Hey, DOWN HERE!!!
Besides any nerve issue, A common undiagnosed issue is internal iliac claudication or its smaller branches. The internal iliac is a branch of the common iliac which is a branch of the abdominal aorta. A small clot can pass through the major arteries and occlude the smaller branch of the artery which would lead to numbness as well as pain. and since nothing seem s to be working it it more likely the Dx.

Sciatica is a pain that results from irritation of one of sciatic nerves. This is a lower back pain that goes down to hip and then to both legs extending to feet and toes in some cases. Sciatica nerve is the largest nerve in our body. Running down the spine through the hip, sciatic nerve goes down to knee and ankle. Any damage or pressure on this nerve results in debilitating sciatica pain that needs thorough investigation of probable causes on the basis of symptoms to provide relief to the patient on a permanent basis.

Any doctor who only treats the symptoms instead of finding the
cause is a quack. Have whatever doctor is treating him to refer your husband to a Neurosurgeon. My husband suffered numb-
ing in his leg and rump. He had an MRI done and found out he had a Herniated disc pressing against his Sciatic nerve. He had
to undergo an operation to get relief. He should have followed up
with physical therapy but he didn't.

if he han still walk it could be a pinched nerve in his back, or it can be some sort of paralization slowly showing up... best bet go see a different doctor. one that does not know you and tell him whats up and research possibiltys of what it is, so in other words talk to the new doctor like you know about every medical term he could bring up, and he wont just give a simple temporary fix, he will be affraid of what would happen if he didn't go through every possibility... and sadly doctors these days are like that... but being an emt i know "where to stand" and just get what i want.... good luck

What sort of chump waits for two years before complaining and then leaves it to his wife to do it for him. Tell him to be British and ignore it, or to be sensible and see a doc. You may not think it but Doctors really dio know what they are talking about at times,
or
It perhaps needs stimulating and a good spanking could help?
