to walk on a leash. My pup is 3 months, is he too young to use one of those training leads, ect?

Or should I wait to do this after his puppy obedience classes?

sheesh, I thought I was clear, this question was about "training" him on a leash. Not about not using a leash for him, wow, bright ones we have here hu?! LOL

The gentle leader is the best. It comes in different sizes and it's adjustable for when your dog grows. I have a golden retriever and it was a miracle. She walks great now. I bought mine at pet smart. It was $20.00. They resist it at first, key is make sure it's on correctly. Read the directions on how it should sit on the dog. It won't work if it's not on right. Good Luck!

I would suggest a chocker collar for the reason being if you give a quick tug it gets their attention. I know the pinch collar does that too but if she is an excessive puller i would suggest teaching her the basic commands like sit, stay and heel. You can also do that with her on a leash. If she continues to pull try the old switcharew technique which is if you walk one direction and she pulls give a firm tug and start walking the other way. Never hold the leash tight give it slack and the minute she pulls tug it and walk the other direction. Do not yell at her for pulling just simple stay calm and walk the other direction looking staright ahead sooner or later she will realize she needs to watch you to anticipate which way you are going to head next. You may find yourself walking in a circle but in the end it will pay off.

Absolutely get him on a leash and keep him in a collar now. Or it will freak him out later. A collar is always a good idea.

Consider the halter style collars? They cross over their back in two places, give you more control over the dog, and can be better for training.

Get a book from the library or look up leash training online. There are lots of good sites.

It's okay to use a leash. A harness is a bit more comfortable for a dog and especially for a puppy.

It';s never too early. I've been using the leash since my pup was 8 weeks. Try a reverse-leash, it's like the chokje chain but much gentler, and will teach proper manners.

You could put him on a training lead so that he learns to accept the lead and that it means if he sees the lead it he would be going for a walk

When you take him for training he will be able to learn new things

He's not at all too young-dogs should have a collar from the time they're 6-8 weeks old until the day they die.

well my daughter, has a harness for her dog it goes through the legs up over there body clips at the top of the dogs back , so you attach a lead to this, this way your dog dose´t get strangled, and you have more control over your dog, without hurting he/she
