I want to read an English version of the Koran, but am sure (just as within Christianity) that there are several versions available. I want one that would be recommended by the spiritual leaders of the Islamic faith so I avoid reading a watered down version or one that would be considered unacceptable/innacurate by their standards.

There aren't "versions" of the Quran so much as there are translations. Everyone has their own choice of translations because each translator has a certain style, language and interpretation of the translation from one language to another. The absolute best way is to learn Quranic or Classical Arabic, then you will be reading the same Quran that Muhammad spoke 1400 years ago. If that's not possible (lol, it's a hard language, even I'm having difficulties), the next best thing is to read as many translations as you can so you can get a better overall picture of what the Quran says. As a suggestion, my favorite translation is by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. He uses a more complex style of English (Shakespearean style) and I think less is taken from the Quran by this language style. Some have difficulties with Shakespearean English or Old English, so they prefer Picktall or Asad. This link is to a website that gives all three translations if you're interested:

Good luck in your studies!

An ancient version Fuegel edition. I hope I spelled it correctly.
Since 1967, to ensure harmony, the government of Saudi Arabia has sponsored the publishing of the Holy Koran. The old texts used to refer to Jeshua as Isa Ibn Miriam as the Messiah. The new ones refer to him simply as Isa Ibn Miriam. Jesus, son of Miriam.

Boaz.

I would first like to make you aware that Muslims only have one version of Holy Quran and its in Arabic others are translation of it and so we cannot compare Bible with Quran because Quran was never changed and its in the same language as it was reveled to Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). As far as link I guess you can go to islamweb or islamcity or askmuslims.com for the translations.

It is just NOT as Christianity, there is ONLY ONE version of the Qur'an. Word for word are the same throughout the world. They words of God, the munificent, the merciful.
