So, as I indicated in my last post, I just adopted a dog yesterday. He was a stray, so I don't know what his name was (he is 3). The shelter named him Banjo, but he doesn't seem to be stuck on it (he doesn't repond) and I don't like it.

I want to re-name him.

I need some suggetions :)

He is a boy, he's three, he is very small for a cocker and he is just lovely. Any ideas? Thanks! :)

Congratulations on your new doggy! Strays and pound dogs are the BEST. They always know you saved them.

First, renaming is brilliant. Never keep whatever name they came with, as they may be reminded of mean old owners every time you call them. So pick one that doesn't even come close to Banjo.

Also, not that you asked ;) but to train him with the new name, use treats and hugs. Call him "Chewy!" in an excited voice, then when he comes, treat or love on him. Then do it again. Pretty soon he will know his new name.

Suggestions? I am naming my lab puppy now, so here are some suggestions I liked and some of my other pet names:

Chance
Lucky
Luke
Reiley
Frodo
Sam
Barkley
Mr Beans
Doc
Pepper
Pepsi
Gus
Max
Fred

Wait a week and watch his personality. A name will come to you that will seem to fit his personality and he will answer to. Last March I adopted a Foxhound puppy from the local Dog Shelter, they had named him Martin, I didn't like the name at all, and neither did he.

Well after a week, he became Marty, and his middle name is Bandit. He likes to steal things and hide them. A name will come to you, just try a few out and see which ones you both like.

Bingo, butch, lazy, floppy, fluffy, a-dog, poppy, doogy, bixby

I really dont know many good male dog names. When I clicked on this question I was thinking Foxy, Roxy, and cute girl names but it is a boy so I dont know harldy any. Sorry.

One name I love for a boy dog is Buddy or Brownie if it's brown, I like Spike and Rover too. My dogs name is Giggles. If it have a cute spot on it you could name it spot.

My kids said crunch!

Our dogs name is Sammie because he looks like Sam Elliot.
It fits perfect. We did have him for a few days before we named him though. Congrats on your new family member!!!
