stick your tongue out, seriously, the onion particles are attracted to wet surfaces and will all go to your tongue instead of your eyes

Wear contact lenses (works for me!)
Chill the onion in the fridge first. Studies at Bristol University found that this reduces the volatility of the crying chemical.
It also helps if you avoid cutting into the root-end of the onion, which is where the eye-watering chemical is strongest. Cut slices down towards it, then turn the onion a quarter-turn and do the same again. Cut across, above the root, and hey presto, diced onion and fewer tears.
Ah -- and wash your hands straight afterwards!

Your eyes cornea's are sensitive to the onions vapor's given off while cutting them causing you to cry. People that wear soft contact lenses (where the entire cornea is covered) are not affected by the vapors and do not react with tears.
Chilling the onions and cutting them under water helps for those who do not need corrective lenses.
I am not sure how to stop your tears cutting onions, but now you know the cause and you can figure out what works best for you.

to stop yourself from crying when cutting an onion, then let it soak in a bowl of water (afer pealing it) for 5 minutes before you cut it, this will make the onion's fumes not as strong, which will make you not cry.
another thing that i have heard was, to stick a piece of bread in your mouth while you are cutting the onion, and the bread will soak up the fumes, i myself have never tried this, but the people that i have heard it from says that it works.

well...my sister told me the trick is to avoid the root bit until the very end...and stand so that ur eyes are as far as possible away from the onion but still can see what you're doing with the onion...

To me, contact lense is the answer. I don't hv this problem ever since I start wearing it. Its obvious. Once my friend (she does not wear lense) and I were cutting onions - she was crying & I did not feel a thing!
