Strange that Salvation Army won't take it, I see desks in their stores quite often. If the desk is in usable shape most charities would take it, and most do offer free pick-up for large items. Look around for other charities/charitable thrift stores, maybe even churches that have "yard sales". Maybe if you just told them they can pick it up, but not say it is "upstairs"? (you wouldn't be lying and they can still refuse if they want)

If you dont want to bring the desk "downstairs" which really seems to be the issue....there has to be some strong kids in the community, give them a couple of bucks and have them bring it dwnstrs. You can leave it on the curb-(one mans trash is another mans treasure). Are there any senior citizens community houses??? and for the record Salvation Army takes any and everything(if you leave it there)

Please don't blame the charities for this, blame the greedy lawyers.
If someone comes to fetch the desk and falls down and injures themselves, they are advised to sue.
OK so get insurance would be the answer.
Check out the cost, this money is supposed to go to the needy, not to fat cat co-operations.
So help out, get a couple of friends and take it downstairs for the charity.
Unless you really are just looking for a free way to dispose of an unwanted Item.
If that's the case advertise it on E-bay with a buyer collects note.

if you are not able to physically take the desk down yourself then maybe get some family member to come take it down the stairs the day before sal army comes to get it or get some of the neighbors to help you move it. salvation army will come get the stuff but they arent going to carry it down the stairs you have to have it in an accessible area. we also have purple heart here but they ask you have all the items outside your door

Call a Local church and see if they have a Donation drive ,or even a local homeless shelter. will come and pick it up for you or if you want you can also list it for "FREE" ON WWW.CRAIGSLIST.COM this site is a classified site that allows people to list things for sale, or free and when you type up the ad you can let them know that if they want the desk they need to come remove it.

Pay some neighborhood kids to bring downstairs and then see if a charity will then pick it up. If not, call a local thrift store.

YOu obviously dont want to donate to charity your just trying to find someone to pick up an old desk that is junk to you. Take it downstairs yourself because nobody is going to do it for you.

I would try looking in your Phonebook, to try to find places that accept donations. Call them, and ask.
