Religion is the enemy of reason, it asks for blind faith instead of empirical data, it's asks us to believe six impossible things before breakfast, and reject any proof that it may be wrong as the work of Satan. Religion is not interested in truth, but trying to sell a fantasy as reality.
Science is not a belief, (religious devotees are always trying to brand other schools of thought as similar to their own, and then use the same arguments used against them to attack others). To attack science as a faith has no basis, science is about provable measurable facts, the real raw reality of existence and how it all works.
Ever read 1984? My jaw dropped when I spotted this doublethink gem amongst some of the most ill informed ignorant garbage I have seen Christians spew on YA for a long time.
"Religion isn't trying to debunk Science. Religion is trying to keep science from running amok with half-baked theories. We keep science in check and make them PROVE their findings".
(Thanks for that strunk)
Ever tried asking a Christian to PROVE his findings, check over the numerous questions on this point, the answers will make a grown man weep at the crass stupidity of mankind.
Today the concern is with evolution, so lets forget about Copernicus, or the real reason Galileo was vilified for arguing against religious doctrine which placed planet earth at the center of the universe, when he proved that it wasn't, and showed that it's just another heavenly body, the church tried to hide it. And when did they admit that Galileo was right 'IN THE LAST QUARTER OF THE 20th CENTURY'. Yes the Catholic church refused to accept the proven truth for that long. Despite the Church having evidence in it's library proving Galileo was right. ( The Babylonians and Egyptians knew this thousands of years ago, the church had some of there records).
Now of course, true to form we have Christians denying their own history. Despite the facts proving otherwise, but when has it ever stopped this hypocritical faith?
It's not that Christian think that science is out to get them, It is that they know that the day humans decide to choose truth over hyperbole they are finished as a power group.
As long as people continue to belive that science fantasy is real and reject true science, then these hypocrites will continue to spread there poisonous nonsense around the globe.

I understand what you are saying, but I think you are making sort of a generalization of a very large group of people. As with anything, it is those who make the most noise who are heard. The United States alone is filled with probably 200 million or more people who consider themselves Christian, and I would be willing to bet that 95% of those people also believe in a great deal of scientific fact. They just don't make a bunch of noise about it.
Zealous followers of any religion do ridiculous things. I would argue that Christianity has come a great deal farther than many religions in terms of what zealous action is carried out under the banner of religion. Except Buddhists. For the most part, they are just a live and let live sort of religion.
All that aside, I agree with your statement about faith. I have faith, and I believe that science is right a lot of the time. Faith in God in no way precludes a belief in science.

I don't fear science at all. Your statement that religion "since the dawn of time" has been trying to hinder science is utterly false. Learn some medieval history and learn some Church history - you'll see that for centuries Catholics saw science - learning about the natural world, discovering how it works - as part of understanding God and his creation. Science was not something that conflicted with religion. Even the Galileo controversy was not anti-science - Galileo got in trouble with the Church because he started telling the Church to change it's interpretation of the bible to suit his theories (not the book of Genesis either, it was a passage in Judges about the sun standing still during a battle). Read Sobel's "Galileo's Daughter" for a more accurate story of Galileo and the Church - there is SO much misinformation about him these days.
I think what Galileo did (overstepping his bounds as a scientist and making theological claims) is what frightens some religious people about science. Some scientists aren't content to focus on science, they start getting into philosophy and claiming that their discoveries prove things about philosophy, ethics, religion, etc that they don't. Richard Dawkins is a contemporary example of this attitude. When you look at the things he's advocating about religion, it's no wonder that some Christians start viewing scientists as "out to get them"

Science was never anti-religion, it was just pro-truth - if that works out as being the same thing then too bad for religion.
They honestly believe Darwin was trying to disprove God, they just can't understand that people dont study evolution because they have an opinion about foolish myths but because they're interested in the reality of the universe.
The people you see on here saying evolution is wrong are the same people who would have been screaming to burn those who said that we go around the sun and not the other way around a few centuries ago and that the earth was flat before that.

I happen to think that God gave us science. Science is a good thing it has made our lives better in countless way. It stretches our minds. I love watching the Discovery channel. I think that religion and science are necessary for life. Of course each will protect its our interest, that is what people do. I really know nothing about Christian Science as to me there is some dogma that I am not in agreement.

I am a christian-wife-mother-daughter, & Science teacher. I do not understand why I cannot be all of these and not lie to myself. You are foolish if you think that you have all the answers and that science can answer every question. I have many labels. I am very content, I do not need you to tell me what is right and wrong, which side knows more. Without God there would be no Science. Get some education my friend, and through that education I pray that you find Jesus.

I'm a Christian and I don't believe science is "out to get me". And I don't "make things up". I simply believe what the Bible says. As far as gravity, and things like that, there's really no issue there. I believe you are primarily referring to evolution. I believe God created us, and I don't believe in evolution, and that's my perogative. I don't believe that we should all accept evolution as absolute truth, because it's a theory, like everything else in science. I don't believe pro-evolutionists should be critisizing Christians just because we don't believe the way they do, because they insist that evolution is truth, instead of acknowledging that evolution is a theory. Christians can call evolution a theory and proevolutionists can call our faith a theory. Either you believe God created us or not. Aren't you glad there are no thought police that demand that you think like them, and we can all be free to express our beliefs without fear? I'm glad I live in a place where I'm not persecuted for my beliefs.

Religion isn't trying to debunk Science. Religion is trying to keep science from running amok with half-baked theories. We keep science in check and make them PROVE their findings.
Any science that needs to lie (pilt-down-man) to prove their theory is grasping at straws.
Science to date hasn't found anything that will disprove the Biblical record. Science has found many things that prove the Biblical sequence of events and systematically discard the information because it is detrimental to the evolutionary theory.

It is very true that there exist many, many misguided Christians. Some even teach that knowledge itself is evil.
But that is not what Jesus teaches. Christians should not fear science. In fact, Christians need to become MORE knowledgable.
A point of interest: Science should reveal truth. Jesus was Truth, therefore, Christians should have no fear of science.

I don't know what christians you're talking about, because science and religion go hand in hand. You're apparently one of those people who hear one opinion from one person and decide everyone who shares any of their belief system thinks exactly the same way. Perhaps that's because you're like that, but for the rest of us, we have our very own thoughts and beliefs. Its just ignorant to lump every christian together as thinking exactly the same just because you think in group mentality.
