Try listening to your wife next time and cover the floors with plastic before doing the drywall work. Then you won't need to clean the hardwood floors!

well, that kind of depends on how the wood is sealed, and what the problem is. Murphy's oil soap is the first thing to try.
Any mild detergent should do an adequate job. Dawn dish washing soap often does wonders. do not use more than a drop or two in a bucket of warm water. easy on the water, your mop should only be damp, and you should rinse at least twice, possibly three times. put a bit of white vinegar in the final rinse. you may have to wax them to get the look you want, cleaning alone often will not do it. or you could try a light coat of mineral oil or peanut oil. without specifics, it is really hard to say just what will work for your problem.

We have hardwood floors throughout our house. Murphy's oil soap or Orange Glo Hardwood floor cleaner and conditioner work great on our floors.

We clean our hardwood floors in our cabins with a very weak solution of water and dishwashing liquid if they appear to be soiled, otherwise we use water and vinegar, and it seems to work just great.
