It's a matter of catching him in the act of barking when he needs to go to the potty and then treat/reward him.

An easier method is to place a bell or ringer near the door. When ever you take your dog out ring the bell or ringer. The dog will catch on and go to the bell/ringer when he needs to go out.

Good Luck

Firt, look up kennel training. It's the best, safest, quickest way to train and the most effective!

Then to get him to bark, take him out of the kennel, or whenever he needs to go, put him at the door and YOU start barking. Say the same thing every time, like SPEAK. Then do these things every time you want him to go out.

The problem with this whole idea is, you may end up with a dog that barks alllll the time, not just when he has to go potty, but whenever he wants to go out and play. So be careful to only do these things on serious potty trips, and no playing during those times! Ever.

Using a bell he can reach, one on the doorknob for example, is a possible improvement. Then you can take the doorbell away if you really need to.

Funny thing, i'm doing this at the exact moment. What i do is say to my puppy " what to do you do?" and then I bark at her. She quickly learned that when i said this she was to bark. It only took 2 dasy of doing this EVERY time I took her out, and now she barks at the door everytime she wants out. Good luck.

well the fact that your dog goes to the door is a good start. our dog does that also and if we are a little slow in getting to the door, she whines a bit. I don't really think that you can train them to bark though, it's more the dog training us to notice them! Just be consistent in letting him out when he goes to the door, especially after he eats or drinks, after a nap and after playtime. Also, consider crate training your dog if he isn't already. our dog is crate trained and it's wonderful, if you cant watch your dog, putting them in their crate helps prevent accidents.
