For the past few weeks, my dog does this thing where she'll rub her nose on her food bowl, sometimes push food out of the bowl or scoot the bowl around and push her face against the bag of dog food (which is right next to her bowl) in a very obsessive-compulsive way, and start whining loudly. Then she'll eat a few bites of food, and the whole process will begin again. I give her the same food she's had for months, and she liked it when I first gave it to her. She seems to be fine other than this problem. I give my cat canned food, which is served in the same room as the dog's, but it's out of the dog's reach. The dog likes to get into the garbage to get the cat's food and sometimes (eww) eats the cat's litter. Could my dog be jealous of the cat's food? If so, why is she acting this way NOW? I've been giving the cat canned food for quite a while. Should I change the dog's food? I can't take this annoying behavior anymore!!

Cat food is junk food to dogs and the litter...just a bad habit like picking ones nose. The whineing is because the dog's pampered to much and she's spoiled. Put all your animal food up and out of sight/smell. Clean yours cat's box out with bleach from time to time to reduce the "tastey" odor (of course make sure it's dry before refilling with litter). In a short time, after ignoring her discontent, she will learn that this is not an effective way to get attention and have you with her at mealtime catering to her whims.

Most importantly! Ignore the whineing if you want it to stop, she will find something else to whine about...she's already put the whine = attention thing together.
